about

Luminiferous Aether is inspired by the scientific search for a light bearing medium of the same name. As proposed the aether would have been an invisible and infinite material having no interaction with physical material. This line of inquiry was exhaustively debated and ultimately led to many discoveries that formed our current understanding of light.

The lighting fixtures used for this project have special xenon gas filled lamps. The gas, also known as Xe, is a naturally occurring element formed during supernovae and is also used to create anesthetics and dark-matter detectors.

This album is a documentary stereo mix reduced from the original 10 channel composition. This piece was written and recorded in Baltimore January 2023 at The Voxel and presented as a site specific installation in a surround strobe lighting environment on February 2, 3 and 4 2023.
